Ordination analysis showing the classification of forest plots at Wildwood Park. Plot 256-2 was the only site classified as Dry Calcareous Forest and Woodland (orange symbols). Based on tree species and site conditions, this forest type was most similar Dry-Mesic Oak Forests (red symbols). Both Dry Calcareous and Dry-Mesic Oak Forests were located on the west-facing slopes and had low moisture conditions. |
Ordination analysis showing distribution of red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) across forest plots at Wildwood Park. Symbol size indicates abundance of red cedar in each plot. Eastern red cedar was found only in Dry Calcareous Forests and Woodlands (orange) and Dry-Mesic Oak Forests (red). Red cedar is an indicator of dry site conditions and higher pH soils, particularly soil from limestone and other calcareous bedrock. |
